Super Salty Blood Mars

It's the #SuperBloodMoon.

No, it's evidence of salty water on Mars.

Or the original Old Ones have woken from their stony sleep and are unrolling in the sky.

(Couldn't resist; my old oil painting on stone from my last school project, Fossil Gears ,  later given to blogger Lousy Canuck/Jason Thibeault was just the right colour to clumsily Photoshop into a night sky.)

Quick 'Bite

Just a quick 'bite this morning.

Hmm. Artrage colours came out with a lot heavier saturation when I switched to Photoshop for cropping. Time to fiddle with some settings.

Last Day of Summer

image.jpg

It's not the official last day of summer, but Labour Day is pretty close. Up at 3:30am, worked on a blog post for Symbiartic, breakfast with my wonderful wife and our boys, and a remarkable act of generosity from someone who enjoys my artwork (more on that another time) all set the tone for a bright day.

Michelle suggested we go for an early walk at the Brickworks, an old former quarry here in the heart of Toronto that's now given over to being a market and nature park. It's one of our favourite places in the city.

Already over 30C, we headed out. A few pictures and vines from today.

The Mellow Brothers hard at work.

Tomorrow I'm back at work at INVIVO as usual; Michelle returns part time to teaching; Calvin begins another school year; and Lochlan starts full time day care. Today, we've enjoyed exploring outdoors with turtles, grasshoppers, crickets, bees, blue jays, snails, milkweed, pond fish, and a bright green frog.

The Intersection of Art and Twitter

Dissolving Twitter Logo by Glendon Mellow

Dissolving Twitter Logo by Glendon Mellow

The past few months, I've written a lot about being an artist on Twitter, and ways that our experiences could be improved, both for the viewer and he artists ourselves. I also tried unfollowing everyone and starting over by following equal amounts of men and women. I even fought spam bots.

In addition to this here purty The Flying Trilobite blog , I am also part of the Symbiartic crew along with scientific illustrator Kalliopi Monoyios (@eyeforscience) and cartoonist Katie McKissick (@beatricebiology). Symbiartic is the art+science, or #SciArt blog on the Scientific American blog network. You can follow Symbiartic on Twitter @Symbiartic.

Here's where you'll find some of my thoughts about art and Twitter:
